Civil Air Patrol is a nonprofit,
humanitarian corporation established in 1941 and chartered by Congress in 1946.
It is also the official auxiliary of the United States Air Force. Public Law 476
established Civil Air Patrol's objects and purposes as follows:
"Provide an organization to encourage and aid American citizens in the contribution
of their efforts, services, and resources in the development of aviation and in
the maintenance of air supremacy, and to encourage and develop by example the
voluntary contribution of private citizens to the public welfare. Provide aviation
education and training especially to its senior and cadet members; to encourage
and foster civil aviation in local communities and to provide an organization
of private citizens with adequate facilities to assist in meeting local and national
emergencies." CAP accomplishes its aerospace education mission in a variety
of ways, including both an internal and external program as well as sponsorship
of the National Congress on Aviation and Space Education.
CAP MISSIONS
Emergency Services
Civil Air Patrol is tasked
by the United States Air Force with accomplishing its goal of search and rescue
within the United States. Volunteer CAP members, highly trained in areas like
communications, first aid, and mantracking, use their skills to locate downed
aircraft or missing persons. We are also called upon to help in disaster relief
and counter narcotics operations.
Cadet Programs
Our cadet members can join at
the age of 12, or while enrolled in the 6th grade. Cadets participate in activities
ranging from basic encampments to a flight school program which can help you earn
a pilot's liscense. The cadet program stresses individual learning skills within
a team work driven environment, where cadets can start by learning basic drilling,
and progress to leadership positions, even on ground teams! Cadets have the opprotunity
to take advantage of our special national activities, including an international
cadet exchange program and a pararescue orientation course.
Aerospace Education
One of Civil Air Patrols' most
fun duties is to help educate the public about aviation, from general to military.
We help out at airshows, especially the EAA show in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Our members
are available to speak to the public on aviation topics. We offer our members
courses like model rocketry and aviation principles. We go on orientation flights
with the military, and tour aviation museums and facilities.
CAP Core Values

in aviation and aerospace. CAP was founded 59 years ago, just days before the
US entered World War II.
Civil Air Patrol Headquarters is located at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. CAP is divided
into 8 geographical regions composed of 52 wings. There is a wing for each state,
plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. Milwaukee Composite Squadron
Five is a part of Wisconsin Wing, Great Lakes Region.
The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a non-profit auxiliary of the United States Air
Force. CAP has a three-fold mission: Emergency Services, Aerospace Education,
and a Cadet Training & Motivation Program.
Every year, thousands of CAP volunteers spend hundreds of hours training for
