Cadet Development Course


The course highlights the broader opportunities available within Civil Air Patrol, helping cadets explore future pathways while building enthusiasm for continued involvement. This program is ideal for cadets who have completed basic encampment and are ready to take the next step in their development.

The Cadet Development Course is a dynamic second-year encampment experience designed to build confident, capable leaders within Civil Air Patrol. Through a hands-on, immersive curriculum, cadets rotate through key staff roles, gaining practical experience in leading a flight, instructing peers, and managing team operations. This structured environment allows cadets to develop essential leadership, followership, and management skills that translate directly to real-world situations. One day of Encampment will be dedicated to marksmanship training and an opportunity to qualify for a marksmanship badge.

Prior to Arriving at Encampment

In addition to leadership development, cadets will participate in engaging aerospace education activities with a focus on model rocketry. Participants are expected to complete required online coursework and examinations to support their hands-on training and maximize their learning experience. Cadets who successfully complete requirements will earn the Rocketry Badge.

Cadets will also be introduced to the basics of staffing an Incident Command Post by with a focus on completing the requirements to qualify as a Mission Staff Assistant (MSA). Participants are expected to complete GES (General Emergency Services) prior to Encampment.
